Traumatic Brain injury (TBI) is an injury

Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) can be easiest understood abstractly as an injury caused from the inside-out. Some of the etiologies of Acquired Brain Injury include, but are not limited to:

  • Exposure to toxic substances or poisoning
  • Infection
  • Strangulation, choking, drowning or Anoxia (Lack of oxygen)
  • Stroke
  • Heart Attacks
  • Tumors
  • Aneurysms
  • Neurological illnesses
  • Abuse of drugs

An ABI is acquired after birth.
